Things to do on a sunny day

The sun is finally shining in Cornwall! After a long, long few months of what’s felt like relentless rain in these parts, the weather’s perked up, and got us all thinking about summer.

To get you in the mood, some of our team have shared their favourite sunny day tips.

Rach, creative director

“On a sunny day I love planning a whole day adventure - a favourite of mine is taking friends on a walk that goes through magical St Nectan's Glen, Rocky Valley, and over the cliffs to Boscastle. It's a long one, but it's beautiful.

“The perfect day there features a leisurely balcony brunch at St Nectan's Glen, chilly waterfall paddles, dappled wandering through woodland, exploring local ruins, watching the sea surge through improbable natural stone stacks, and a high cliffside return route with picnic snacks and far-stretching sea views. We'd end the day with a swim in Boscastle Harbour - on a high tide afternoon I like to jump in from the sides and lay back in the water, watching the gulls flying high above. A perfect end to the day would be wine and delicious small plates shared at The Good Stuff.

“We’re absolutely spoiled for beaches here, but my favourite family spot has to be Summerleaze in Bude. It’s so handy! It’s huge, so there’s always plenty of space. There are sand dunes for rolling down, a river for paddling in, the iconic sea pool for dips and some excellent surf. Because it’s in Bude, there’s also a car park, toilets and plenty of spots for ice creams nearby.

“My favourite thing to do is take our little barbeque down to the beach, along with some sausages, rolls and sauces, and dish out the hotdogs. Somehow kids are always extra hungry on beach days, and hotdogs are always devoured by all ages. I have been known to throw in a gin in a tin too, when I’m feeling extra classy. Dreamy.

“If you want to dodge the crowds, there’s also Northcott, a little further down the coast, with its National Trust car park, great rock pools for exploring and paddling, and the idyllic Sip + Sea tea garden a couple of minutes walk away. “

Molly, campsite manager

“If the sun is shining, you’ll find us out on our gravel bikes. It’s a great way to explore this part of Cornwall. There are endless lanes winding through the countryside, taking you from the rugged moors to the coast. Cornish pasties and cream teas are the perfect treat to keep you fuelled along the way too.

“Following National Cycle Route 3 down through Bodmin Moor to the Snail's Pace Cafe is a particular favourite. It's a beautiful route! “

Hope that sparks some inspiration for you! Isn’t it time to book your stay?

See you in the field
